From this website :
"The Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is the 3.5-mile-long Hampton Roads crossing for Interstate 64. It is comprised of bridge trestles, manmade islands, and tunnels under the main shipping channels for Hampton Roads harbor. It connects the City of Norfolk to the City of Hampton."
My take on it. HELL. This bridge-tunnel is the main way out of Norfolk if you are heading west. It is two lanes with NO shoulder. Basically, if there is a wreck in the tunnel, everyone trying to leave Norfolk is screwed. Normally, I don't have to use this tunnel in my day-to-day driving. But, when I go up to DC for work, I do.

Monday morning I left to drive to Washington DC. I left at 4:30am. You are lucky to see a few random drunks out at this time of the morning. You are not expecting a traffic jam. So, imagine my surprise when I saw brake lights before the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel (HRBT). The traff ic was not moving AT ALL. People were turning off their cars. Not good. A half hour later, we finally get moving. After going through the tunnel, we see the problem. A "bread truck" had broken down in the middle of the tunnel and had to be towed out. I guess I should be happy it wasn't a bread truck filled with explosives... But it still gave me a severe case of "the Mondays".
On Tuesday night, I was on my way BACK from Washington DC. I got to the bridge and AGAIN, stopped traffic. I waited 15 minutes before traffic moved even an inch. I never actually saw what the holdup was this time.
I give the HRBT a big THUMBS DOWN for the week. Boo hiss!
