LAST

Not sure how I feel right now... Getting ready to watch the last episode of LOST. This season hasn't been as good as the others, so on that note, I'm more prepared for it to end. Also, Lee doesn't like it, so I either have to watch it when he isn't home, kick him out of the living room or tolerate him insulting the show while I try to watch it. However, it is one of my favorite shows of all times. GOODBYE MY LOVE!

The Big One!

Taryn is ONE YEAR OLD today. Well, in about 2 hours. 3 hours if we're adjusting for the time zone she was born in. Actually, bad mom, I don't really know exactly what time she was born. Somewhere there in the worst pain known to mankind, I kind of spaced (or tried to go to a happy place) and totally lost track.
Taryn goes to her one year appointment on Monday, so I don't have official stats on her just yet. However, last week at the doctor, she weighed 23lbs9oz. 18 months clothes are starting to get a bit snug on her, 24 months fit much better. She wears a size 4 diaper and a size 4 shoe. (Well, depending on the shoe. Don't get me started on how NOT standard baby shoe sizes are.) Taryn has ten teeth, including both molars on the left side and no molars on the right side.
We are having Taryn's birthday on Saturday at our house. People have been asking what the theme is. Um, yellow & red? Can that be a theme? Have you seen how expensive things are when you throw Elmo's face on there? Taryn doesn't even know any characters yet, so I'm going to wait until she does to start dishing out the dough on character cups, plates, napkins, pinatas, etc. The party will be in our yard and will be a cookout. We've got a good crowd coming. Props to Grandpa Jeff and Great-grandma Mimi for coming all the way from New Jersey and St. Louis for it.
Taryn still loves saying "ah-duh", but she has now started mixing in some other sounds. "Bop" seems to be popping up quite often. She is by no means a quiet child. When she thinks she has something important to say, you will hear it. She absolutely adores the book "Eyes Nose Fingers and Toes". We have a shelf full of her books in the living room. She will walk over there and pull every single book off the shelf until she gets to that one. Then she'll bring it over and start looking through it. It is the most loved and most worn of all her books. The "ears" page is missing a piece. The blanket on the last page is now torn out. The lollipop is practically crumpled. But, hey, it still pleases her. Taryn likes climbing into her rocking chair and rocking. She is super cool in a rocking chair. She likes to try to open drawers and is infatuated with the printer. She still loves the kitties, especially Darby who she calls "Da". She hugs Darby and pats her and lays her head on her. It's pretty sweet. Taryn knows how to blow kisses not and does it whenever she is leaving or if you say "I love you". She is a cuddler and if you are sitting on the floor, she'll walk up and hug you and sit on your lap. Taryn hasn't been eating as well as she used to. Not sure if it is the molars or just a new phase. What she likes one day can totally change for the next. It is hard to be sure what to give her. She usually likes greenbeans a lot, and of course cheese. (But seriously, who doesn't like cheese?)
Taryn is really starting to enjoy her yard and being outdoors. She still LOVES daycare and gets so excited when we arrive. She especially likes little Julian at daycare. He is a cutie, I'll give her that. Today we signed up for swim classes. When I took her down to show her the pool, she was very wide-eyed. It will be interesting to see how that first swim lesson goes! Taryn likes new people, but is slightly more nervous of them then she used to be. She is really such a happy girl and loves to smile and be silly. She's still copying everything she sees which I'm sure will be even more once she starts getting more words in her vocabulary then "mum" "dat" and "all done".
I am totally blown away that she is a year old now. It seems that the time has passed so quickly. I'm sure it will continue to pass quickly as well. Soon I'll be writing a blog about her first day of kindergarten. TEAR! That's ok because with every day that passes she becomes a funnier, cuter, smarter little girl. I love her so much and feel so blessed to be her "mum".
Happy Birthday Taryn!

Just 15 more years!

"Dudes, I got the keys to my mom's car. Let's go for a ride!"
"You there. You sit shotgun."
"Fine. I'm leaving without you."

Last year...

*
Sometimes I like to look back at where I was a year ago via my blog. I just read my blog from exactly one year ago today. If you don't want to read it, I'll summarize it: NESTING. I had just found out when our T-bone would be joining us and it was madness. I looked back and my pics of my ginormous body and it totally looks to be the most uncomfortable thing ever. Oh yeah, it was. It seems like 12 years ago. But really, just 12 months. 12 amazing, tiring, spectacular, frustrating, eye-opening, diaper-changing, life-changing months. Here is a little glimpse of my year. (In case this blog doesn't have enough pics of Taryn... Yeah, I'm sure that's a problem.)

Just when I think she can't get any more amazing and adorable, another month passes and she does!

Spare Time

*
So, this is my 2nd week off of school. I can't say that I have been kicking back and relaxing, um, at all. Which is a little disappointing. Last week, Taryn was sick, so my entire week was pretty much spent with a sick baby clinging to me crying. Poor little thing. This week has been full throttle cleaning and preparing mode for Taryn's party this weekend.

Our house is by no means finished from all our renovations. Lee and I get rather accustomed to living in our renovation chaos and hardly notice after awhile. However, when I take a step back and look at the house as a non-resident would see it... I panic.

Progress has been made though. This morning I took my first shower at our house in months. Wow, I must have been dirty. Haha. No, we've been taking baths all this time. I used to enjoy the occasional bath to kick back and relax. I am pretty sure it will be a LONG time before I want another bath! Lee has the wall built in our bathroom to hide our washer and dryer and create our bathroom closet. Tomorrow I paint the closet doors and hopefully they are installed on Thursday.

Things are coming together and I'm sure our family and friends won't be as critical as I am this weekend, but still... I wish things were a bit further along! (Pics to follow later. I'm too lazy to upload my photos right now.)

Oh... And another concern. Our house is small. And we have 30-some family members coming this weekend to Taryn's party... Keep your fingers crossed for good weather because I don't think all those people will fit in our house!!

Monkey See Monkey Do

*
As soon as Taryn started eating solid food, when she was done, I would put my hands up and say "Allllll done!" I was hoping that she would learn the hand gesture and be able to let me know when she was done eating. Not only did she learn the hand gesture, but she says the words too. The funny part is, she does the gesture, and she says "ahhhhhhhh dun" just like I do. She has started doing it at my mom's house and at daycare. The first time she said it at my mom's, my mom texted me and said "I swear she just said 'all done'."
Now... Taryn has started immitating EVERYTHING. She tries to immitate when I snap my fingers, but she makes the sound with her mouth. Today on the way home from daycare she made a fish face at me. When she is eating, she not only mimicks me saying "Mmmmm mmm", she purses her lips and sticks her chin out just like I do when I say it. I have noticed that she is always watching now. Picking up on every little sound and expression. (I guess this is when I need to really cut back on the swear words.)
This is one of the funniest things that she has started doing. She puts her little mini-purse on her arm and walks around with it. The entire time she is walking around with it, she holds her arm up in the air to keep the purse on her arm. I'm not sure where she got this. I really don't carry a purse all that often. And when I do, I certainly don't hold my arm up the whole time.
I've always noticed when kids make faces that their parents do and wondered if that was nature or nurture... At this point, I'm even more puzzled!
*note, we did not get to go to the Cubs game on Wednesday, but Taryn suited up anyway. Oh, and don't mind the fact that her pants are unbuttoned. She was prepping for a diaper change.

My First Mother's Day

*
Yesterday was my first mother's day... We went out to lunch, Lee and Taryn gave me some flowers and a card. My mom gave me a day at the spa including a massage, pedicure & haircut. Seriously, that woman can read my mind!!

We went out to lunch. We spent time with my mom and my grandma.

However, there was one "gift" that I received that I definitely didn't ask for.

A sick baby. Doh.

She wasn't just sick, she was clingy, crying, miserable sick. And all of our Tylenol has been recalled. Lee made a run for some generic brand baby medicine. It helped a bit and Taryn perked up and played with her Grandma Mary. However, in the midst of her playing, she would see me and remember that she was being miserable and come want mommy-hugs and to cry.

Today, thankfully, was a much better day!

Whoa... She's.... Blogging!

*
Hey, yes, it's me! I have surfaced.

Friday was my last day of student teaching. It felt so strange to give my classes back to their actual teacher. There are students I will definitely miss... And then there are a couple that I am happy to leave!

It is kind of a shock to go from being super duper busy to now having almost nothing to do for the next 5 weeks! I am pumped! Taryn will only be going to daycare twice a week now, so we're going to be doing lots of fun summer stuff including swim lessons!

Taryn turns 1 in less than 2 weeks... Where has the time gone? For now, the number one thing on my to-do list is just to get our hosue in order for company. There are a lot of things that got neglected around here while I was student teaching.

So, you'll probably be seeing a little more of me around this blog. I'm sure you're all so excited!

Mr. & Mrs. Weida

Last weekend we went to the wedding of James & Jen. It was a lovely (and quick) ceremony and a fun reception. We got to see some friends that we haven't seen in quite awhile, good food, good drinks & good music = a good time!
Of course, most of my pictures were of a certain someone. I can't imagine who that might be!
This was Taryn's first wedding and she loved it. She liked all the people... She liked the little boy in the pew in front of us. She was pretty sure when everyone clapped at the end they were cheering for her.
And, being a super considerate baby, Taryn got in her pj's at the reception and went right to sleep. She stayed asleep while we put her in the reclined highchair so mommy & daddy could stay and mingle for a couple more hours. In this pic our friend Chad was showing his son what he should be doing.

Best Friends

Darby, you sure do make a good pillow.
Can I tell you a secret?
I love you.
And then there's that other cat... I don't so much care for that one.

Some pics from daycare...

*
In honor of her last full-time week at daycare (until August) here are some pics that Taryn's favorite lady at daycare took. Thanks Titi Wanda! I know you're going to miss your little princess, but she'll still be there on Tuesdays & Thursdays!
