Get out & vote!

Lee and I made it to the American Legion at 6:15am, right after they opened. We still ended up waiting for 45 minutes to vote! It was busy.

And there was this annoying chick that made like 15 phone calls on her cell phone behind us. And all she was talking about was her 12 hour nursing shift, her Facebook account, and some guy in her church being "divisive". Lee leaned over and whispered "I have never heard the word divisive so many times in one day." I said we should have brought some booze and turned it into a drinking game! Drink when she says 'divisive'. Drink when she mentions Facebook. Drink when she mentions her 12-hour shift... It was a huge relief when we finally got through the door and her cell phone signal faded.

Anyway, get out there and vote! Or else no complaining for the next 4 years!

Lee and I went to see the movie W tonight. I was definitely expecting more. I learned a little bit, but I really thought there would be more about his presidency. Most of the movie was about the earlier years of his life. It definitely reaffirmed my opinion on George W, though. Great guy to party with (back when he drank), but not my choice for President.

And I couldn't get over the fact that the guy that played George HW (James Cromwell) is like 6'5", and just seemed to tall. I obsess over things like this.

Oh, the movie made Colin Powell look GREAT and Dick Cheney look like, well, a dick. As a reward to Colin Powell, I'm going to go ahead and listen to who he said to vote for in a week & a half.

I just got POLLED!

A few days ago, I noticed that I had a missed phone call from 000-000-0000. Very suspicious. Today, I got a call from 317-000-0000 and I answered it. They were polling Indiana voters about the election in November. I got polled! I'm so excited! They asked about the Presidential race, then they asked about the race for Governor of Indiana. I tried to tell the woman that I didn't know anything about the race for Governor. My friend Paul works for Mitch Daniels, so I was inclined to say I would vote for him. But, then I remember my father-in-law saying he wasn't doing such a good job, so I said "the other person". Literally. I couldn't remember the name she had said. I wish she would have just let me skip that question!!!

Note, I just looked it up. Mitch is running against Jill Long Thompson. Yup, I know nothing about the race for Governor.

Writing so much about politics... I guess this is just the first election that I am really paying attention. Which makes sense since the other two elections I could vote in I was 19 & 23 years old! I was just looking for that website that tells you which candidate lines up the best with your views. I already know that McCain is my political opposite and therefore, my mind is made up for November. However, I want to have the website ready for others who may hastily make a choice for the wrong reasons. Like coming from a big, Republican farm family from Indiana... I'm not naming any names.

Anyway, awhile back I posted the Candidate Calculator. My results:

Mike Gravel - 66.67%
Barack Obama - 59.26%

Not surprising, the candidate to come in DEAD LAST was:
John McCain - 33.33%

I started looking at my comments from that post to see who people might be voting for now that we know who the presumptive candidates are.

Cletus: Romney 90.48%. Not a surprise, as a free-market warmonger who wants to deport all Mexicans.

Poll: McCain's hard to beat

Maybe it was the month CFunk spent bashing McCain with blogs like "McCain the foreign policy expert?", "John McCain's real views on immigration", and my favorite title: "McCain the jerk"...

Or, maybe it is the fact that McCain is basically my political opposite...

But, I just can't believe that McCain is pulling this kind of approval!

WASHINGTON (CNN) — A new poll out Wednesday suggests Sen. John McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, will be a difficult candidate for the eventual Democratic nominee to beat in a general election match up this fall.

According to a just released Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll, McCain would be in tight races with either of the remaining Democratic presidential candidates.

McCain is statistically tied with Sen. Barack Obama, 44 percent to 42 percent, and ahead of Sen. Hillary Clinton by 6 points, 46 percent to 40 percent. The poll's margin of error was plus-or-minus 3 percentage points.

The poll also showed McCain with a 61 percent approval rating, a number higher than both Clinton's and Obama's in past polls. (A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll earlier this month measured Clinton's approval rating at 52 percent and Obama's at 58 percent.)

The Arizona senator holds a clear advantage on dealing with the war in Iraq, according to the poll, and holds a 9 point advantage on economic issues over Obama, despite having acknowledged that area is not his expertise. Though the poll finds voters favor Clinton by 10 points over McCain to handle the economy.

The same poll also showed Obama with a 6 point edge over Clinton nationally — a finding that's consistent with several other polls out earlier this week that indicate that the senator from Illinois is the frontrunner in the Democratic race.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of it. It said that I should vote for Ron Paul because we agree on 70% of all topics. I am guessing I won't get the chance!!
